Frisby CofE Primary School brings village together with first-ever Scarecrow Festival

Frisby Church of England Primary School has brought a splash of colour, creativity and community spirit to Frisby on the Wreake, Leicestershire, with the launch of its first-ever Village Scarecrow Festival, celebrating the joy of reading and bringing the local community together.

Organised by the school and its dedicated Parent, Teacher and Friends Association (PTFA), the festival took place on Sunday 11th and Monday 12th October, transforming the village into a colourful trail of book-themed scarecrows for families, children and residents to enjoy.

Inspired by the success of scarecrow festivals in neighbouring villages, the school wanted to introduce something new and exciting to Frisby, creating an opportunity for people of all ages to come together, get creative and celebrate their close-knit village community.

With this academic year marking the school's Year of Reading, the festival embraced a literary theme, encouraging children to explore the wonderful world of books, storytelling and imagination beyond the classroom.

The event was a true community effort, with the school's house groups joining local residents and businesses, including the village pre-school and pub, to create an impressive collection of 10 scarecrows displayed throughout Frisby.

The festival not only brought smiles to visitors but also supported an important fundraising goal. Each scarecrow featured a QR code, allowing visitors to make voluntary donations towards the school's PTFA fundraising efforts.

Money raised will help fund a new stage for Frisby C of E Primary School, providing pupils with a dedicated space to develop their confidence, express their creativity and showcase their talents through nativity productions, music concerts and other special school performances.

Charmaine Ainge, Headteacher at Frisby Church of England Primary School, said:

"We are incredibly proud of our close-knit school community, and it has been wonderful to see that same sense of togetherness spread throughout the village for our very first Scarecrow Festival.

"At Frisby, we believe that learning should be exciting, creative and full of opportunities for children to flourish and succeed. As part of our Year of Reading, we wanted to bring stories to life in a fun and imaginative way, while creating something that the whole village could enjoy.

"The enthusiasm and support from our pupils, families, local residents and businesses has been fantastic. We are so fortunate to be part of such a caring and supportive village, and we hope this festival will become a much-loved annual tradition that continues to bring our community together for many years to come."

As a welcoming village primary school, Frisby CofE Primary School prides itself on its strong relationships with families and the wider community, creating a nurturing environment where children are known, valued and encouraged to thrive.

Following the success of its first Scarecrow Festival, the school hopes to welcome even more participants next year, building on the creativity, enthusiasm and community spirit that made this year's event so special.

Part of Rise Multi Academy Trust, Frisby Church of England Primary School continues to champion enriching experiences that help pupils learn, grow and flourish, while remaining at the heart of its local village community.
